Workforce Development, Inc. Announces American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Scholarships for Fall and Spring 2009/2010

Rochester, Minn., July 14, 2009 - Workforce Development, Inc. is pleased to announce the availability of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) Youth and Adult Career Scholarships. Fifteen youth and fifteen adult scholarships valued up to $5,000.00 a year will be available for the upcoming fall semester. The intent of the scholarships is to help people age 18 and older get the education/training necessary to obtain a career in vital or “hot” southeast Minnesota occupations. Recipients will be selected from four industry sectors (Manufacturing; Healthcare; Hi-Tech and Bio-Science; and Service and Trades) by members of the Southeast Minnesota Workforce Investment Board. Education/training must be completed within two years, with scholarships being awarded on a yearly basis. The scholarships will be awarded based on need plus merit. The funding comes through the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program and your local Workforce Investment Board.

Interested candidates should go to their local Workforce Development, Inc. office to start the application process, or call Randy Long at 507-292-5176 with any questions. All steps to apply must be completed by August 14, 2009, to be considered for a fall semester scholarship.
