Previously Incarcerated Individual Taskforce

Mission Statement:

Connect employers with potential employees who have been convicted of a crime

Vision

Every previously incarcerated person will have a real opportunity to earn a living wage

Values

Equity, fairness and a willingness to address these issues when we believe the previously incarcerated aren’t being treated fairly

Two Ongoing Goals of the Taskforce:

1. Educate employers regarding a previously incarcerated workforce
2. Increase the employment of clients coming out of incarceration into jobs and careers that pay a living wage

Tuesday, July 31 from 3:00 to 4:30 pm at the Rochester WorkForce Center, 2070 College View Road East. Park in the East Parking lot, enter Door H8, and follow the signs.

Previously Incarcerated Individual Subcommittees

Employer Engagement: (Margene Gunderson – Chair)

– Charged with increasing awareness, promoting policies, systems, and environmental changes
– Utilizes education, networks, and ambassadors who are willing to go to the events and talk about how they have succeeded in hiring people with a background. It also educates employers from three different perspectives:

  • Legal
  • Emotional
  • Practical

Previously Incarcerated-focus: (Orlando Smith and Matt Bevis – Co-Chairs)

– Identifies and addresses barriers to employment. The plan is to provide support with a team behind them as they transition out of incarceration and seek employment
– Education and training are essential
